SURJ-KC - Disrupting Institutional Racism

Date: Monday, February 18, 2019
Time: 6:30 - 8:30 PM
Location: St. Mark Hope and Peace Lutheran
3800 Troost Ave, Kansas City, Missouri 64109

Throughout history, white supremacy culture has been and continues to be rooted deeply in our institutions. Through the fabric of institutional policies and practices, white supremacy culture steers and controls resources, power, and opportunity toward white people while systematically excluding, devaluing, and harming people of color. Creating a world where racial justice prevails will require us to look beyond individual bigotry and implicit bias to change the institutional policies, practices and cultural norms that continue to produce substantial racial disparities. As white folks in white institutions, we ALL have power to disrupt institutional racism.

The SURJ KC Personal Support team will provide tools to analyze the ways white supremacy culture continues to drive institutional policies and practices, and will help develop strategies for taking specific action to disrupt and transform institutions where we have influence.

If this is your first SURJ event, please attend SURJ 101 at 6:30pm. Main program begins at 7pm.

Childcare will be available.
